The Emir of Gaidam, Alhaji Tijjani Saleh Gaidam has advised youths to shun drugs abuse, saying it's the root cause of Boko haram insurgency in Gaidam and other parts of Yobe State.
The Emir spoke at "Peace symposium" organized for Youths by Center for Innovative Community Development (CICD) in collaboration with Northeast Regional Initiative (NERI), Saturday, in Gaidam town.
Saleh said the consumption of illicit drugs has ruined the lives of many youths that were fully involved in Boko haram militancy.
"I am appealing to Youths across Gaidam, Yobe and Northeast to desist from the act of sales and consumption of drugs, which is the root cause of the Boko haram militancy," he said
The Emir, who was represented by District head of Pichimiram, Mohammad Zannah Nur said for sustainable peace to endure, youths should be tolerant and respectful to everyone irrespective of religion and cultural background.
"You should be veritable instruments for peace and development, and never to allow yourselves to be used for conflict, war and insurgency," he added.
He called on government and security agencies to deal massively against illegal drugs and to continue the crackdown on the sellers.
